Support for HAF providers

Our HAF providers have been able to access First Aid training and Safeguarding training - Level 1 and 2 mandatory training as part of the support package, this has also included a face-to-face Level 4 Designated Lead Safeguarding training.

We have provided access to Autism Awareness training and SEND resources to support pupils in their clubs. We have delivering network opportunities to update providers on good practice, resources shared by colleagues from Southend Council teams.

We worked with Southend Safeguarding Partnership Board to adapt the Safeguarding Audit for HAF providers. We had 100% return to this audit and that included some recommendations and HAF top tips for Safeguarding Children.

We worked in partnership with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), SAVS and Activate Essex to promoted water safety in the summer HAF programme. The initiative raised the importance of respecting the water and awareness about safety, drowning risk and the benefits of water activities. The RNLI shared key water safety messages by offering specialist training through an 80-minute online workshop. Free resources were made available to all HAF providers to educate children on the importance of water safety and saving lives. With support young people across Southend learnt about vital water safety messages, helping them stay safe now and in the future. We were able to share the activity resources with all holiday clubs delivering across Southend to educate and raise the awareness of staying safe by the coast.
