Adaptions in maintained schools and key themes of the accessibility strategy

Adaptations in maintained schools:

Where physical alterations are required to a school building, the responsibility for implementing and funding the work will rest with Southend-on-Sea City Council or the school/responsible body or both, depending on the nature of the work required.

Academies are independent of the Council and are funded directly by Central Government.

The key themes

Southend-on-Sea's Accessibility Strategy supports schools in becoming more inclusive across three core areas:

  1. Curriculum - ensuring learning and opportunities are accessible to all pupils
  2. Physical environment - making buildings and spaces inclusive and welcoming for everyone
  3. Information - providing communication in formats that everyone can understand

Governance:

The Governing Board is responsible for reviewing the policy and ensuring it is effectively implemented.
