Southend, Essex and Thurrock Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (SET CAMHS)
SET CAMHS provides advice and support to children, young people and families who are in need of support with their emotional wellbeing or mental health difficulties. NELFT works in partnership with HCRG Care Group to deliver this service.
Referrers seeking advice can contact SET CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA) on 0800 953 0222 (9am-5pm). Out of hours SET CAMHS helpline: 0800 995 1000.

Eating Disorder Service
the eating disorder service aims to bring hope and confidence, through help and support, to those who have an eating disorder, to enable them to take back control of their life.
The team works with clients and their families (if appropriate) to ensure we are all working together and sharing information about treatment and progress.
Regular meetings are held to review how things are going and to keep GPs updated on progress. Throughout treatment, clients (and families) will be involved in the decision-making regarding care, reflecting basic rights for privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and respect.
Treatment is offered within 1 week of referral for urgent cases and 28 days for routine cases. Referrals from professionals and self referrals are accepted.
Learning Disability Team
The team accept referrals for children (aged 4 to 18) and their families who have a severe/profound learning disability and an additional mental health need. This includes children in foster care, adoptive families and residential settings.
The team work with families and the system around the child/young person to offer assessment and treatment/intervention to help address mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and psychosis.
Alongside this, they will also help address and or manage issues such as aggressive behaviour, sleep problems, self-injury and eating problems, when they are related to the mental health issue referred.
Crisis and Home Treatment Team
The crisis team can provide emergency assessments in the community within 4 hours if a referral is accepted as being appropriate for this response. Where possible they will try to support assessments to take place in a suitable environment such as one of the local team clinics, or community settings, which can include the home if the young person is known to the service, and it is safe to do so.
Where additional support is required to keep a young person safe in the community the SET CAMHS locality team with consult with them to offer additional support alongside the community-based work which is expected to continue for the duration of this support. It may be that this support is identified as being suitable following the community crisis assessment and will be discussed with the young person, family and community team.
The need and level of support required is identified in consultation with the community team and is reviewed on a weekly basis. This is a time limited offer of support to support the stabilisation of the crisis and to ensure positive and safe outcomes for young people.
Therapies SET CAMHS
SET CAMHS offer a wide range of individual and group talking therapies, including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- trauma‑focused therapies
- play‑based approaches
- art and creative therapies
- psychodynamic therapy
- family therapy
- group therapy
- medication support
They also provide guidance to all localities and teams around supporting young people with neurodiversity, including those who are receiving intervention from SET CAMHS

DSR Keyworker Service
The Southend, Essex and Thurrock (SET) DSR (Dynamic Support Register) Keyworker Service provides support to children and young people who have a learning disability or are autistic and are:
- inpatients in a mental health hospital
- at risk of being admitted to a mental health hospital
- placed on the Dynamic Support Register (DSR)
The primary goal of the service is to reduce the number of individuals in an inpatient setting, reduce unnecessary or avoidable admissions and support step-down transition for individuals into the community as early as suitable.
