Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives

What is it?

Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives (HLHL) is the new programme that replaces Healthy Schools in Southend.

The award is online. It uses an easy-to-use online “Wheel Tool” and a helpful website. A trained advisor will support teachers and staff. When your school meets all the steps, you will get a certificate and special logos to show your school cares about health and wellbeing.

Why join?

• The award is completely online.
• Each school gets a safe, password-protected online area to upload their work.
• The online wheel helps you collect and organise your evidence.
• Staff can work together and share the tasks more easily.
• Public Health can see your work in real time and help you as you go, so there is no big final submission.
• You can keep all your health-related policies, resources and evidence in one place.
• The wheel shows a simple colour chart (red, amber, green) to help you see what is going well and what needs improving.
• You can store evidence safely for inspections and planning.
• Improving health in school can help children attend more, behave better, and achieve more.
• You will get guidance and support from the Public Health team.

A member of school staff said:
“HLHL has helped us focus on whole-school health, which really supports the children.”
