Southend-on-Sea City Council, Essex County Council and Thurrock Council welcome you to a vibrant event dedicated to celebrating partnerships between education, local employers and our SEND community. Find out more

The journey from childhood to adulthood is an important time for all children and young people, particularly for those with special educational need and/or disabilities (SEND). It is vital that children receive the right support and guidance at the earliest opportunity to prepare them for becoming an adult and help them to reach their full potential and lead a fulfilling life.

The Local Authority focuses on the four key outcomes listed below when working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These outcomes aim to support their transition into adulthood and promote independence.

  • employment opportunities and higher education
  • developing skills for independent living
  • encouraging active participation in society
  • maintaining good health as adults

Most of the information in this section of the Local Offer is relevant to all young people with SEND, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Information specifically for those with an EHCP is clearly indicated.
