The Progressions service aims to provide ongoing transition support for up to one year following discharge from Southend, Essex and Thurrock Child and Adolescents Mental Health Service (SET CAMHS) and provide needs led interventions to support young adults with this transition process.
Who the service is for
We aim to support young adults who have been receiving a service from the commissioned CAMHS service and are preparing to leave, this includes those who:
- are approaching transition age (16 to 18 or up to 25 if SEND) and leaving CAMHS but do not meet the current threshold for adult mental health services
- have left the CAMHS service (16 to 25yrs) but require therapeutic support and do not meet adult mental health service threshold (case by case by clinical decision)
- are 18 to 25 years and have a therapeutic support need (may not have received CAMHS support in some time) that does not meet adult mental health thresholds but would benefit from short term intervention (case by case by clinical decision)
How the service is delivered
We will make sure you have the right support at the right time, which will be agreed by you and your Support Worker.
One of our Support Workers will spend time getting to know you, listening to what you would like to happen in order to make things better in your life.
Support will be for up to 12 weeks, with regular meetings between you and your Support Worker as well as telephone support depending on your needs and preferences.
You will also have access to up to 8 weeks of support from a therapist to help with your progression.

As long as young people meet the following criteria, they can self-refer to the service, or a professional (such as a support worker or school) can complete a referral on their behalf:
- age 16 to 18, or up to 25 with an additional need
- reside in Essex (apart from Thurrock which is not covered by the service)
- have received an intervention/assessment from CAMHS.
