What the local authority expects a setting to provide - Element 1
All schools should provide quality, inclusive teaching which takes into account the learning needs of all pupils in the classroom. It includes:
- providing differentiated work
- creating an inclusive learning environment
Some pupils may need specific, additional and time-limited interventions to help to accelerate their progress to enable them to work at or above age-related expectations. These interventions are often targeted at a group of pupils with similar needs.
Element 1 or Basic Entitlement Funding (previously known as Age Weighted Pupil Unit - AWPU) is a sum a money for each pupil on roll. Current guidance suggests that a primary school allocates 3% and a secondary school contributes 2% of Element 1 funding to the Notional SEN Fund.
