Speech, Language and Communication Resource Base

Southend-on-Sea City Council commission a resource base in Southend that provides support for pupils with speech and language disorder or significant language delay.

The Speech and Language and Communication Resource Base (SLRB) is based at Fairways Primary School. It is an early identification and intervention base for children aged 4 to 7 years with speech, language and communication needs (Key Stage 1 and 2). In very exceptional circumstances children may enter in Key Stage 2.

Admissions are agreed by the SLRB and the local authority in order to ensure that the right pupils are admitted. Suitable pupils will have an education health and care plan (EHCP) with speech, language and communication as the primary learning difficulty.

In exceptional circumstances admission may be sought on an assessment placement basis. This may be following the advice of an expert, for example the outreach teacher for speech and language or a Speech and Language Therapist and will be agreed in conjunction with the local authority and the SLRB.

Please contact the SEND Team to discuss the admission criteria or for further information about the speech, language and communication resource base.
