Speech, language and communication difficulties

You can expect the teacher within the classroom to make changes to meet needs for every child or young person.

For example:

  • seating the child or young person in a place where they can easily see the teachers face
  • providing lots of opportunity to speak aloud to others
  • giving additional time for the child or young person to speak without feeling rushed
  • providing instructions in different ways, for example, written and spoken
  • modelling pronunciation and positive listening

The teacher or SENCo may also ask for help from a specialist teacher or a Speech and Language Therapist.
