The Southend Preparing for Adulthood Team provide support for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
The Southend Vocational profile
Any young person in Southend can download the Southend Vocational Profile. Parents and professionals can work through the Vocational Profile with young people. This will enable the young person to reflect on any relevant experience they already have, and think about what they want to do in the future.
The profile does not need to be completed all at once. Encourage young people to take ownership by downloading the profile onto their phone, adding to it at different times and sharing with relevant people.
For help completing the Vocational Profile, young people can attend a Southend Careers Service drop-in session at The Forum Library on any Friday between 10am and 4pm. Careers Advisors are on hand to help and answer any questions.
Southend Careers Service
Southend Careers Service is an all-age service. Personal advisors can offer one to one information, advice and guidance on a range of area's including:
- CV writing and cover letters
- job search tips and information about the local labour market
- interview preparation
- advice on college courses and training providers
- support with finding and applying for apprenticeships
- information about university and higher education
Southend YMCA
Support available through 2 key programmes:
- Ready to Work (referral required from the SEND Team, Careers Service, Southend Virtual School or Youth Justice Team)
- The Landing Pad (no referral required - open access)
Future Makers
Future Makers is delivered by Achieve, Thrive, Flourish (ATF).
The programme provides a broad range of vocational development opportunities for young people and adults in underserved communities across South Essex.
Participants benefit from a range of easy access options including volunteering, training and development, work placements and paid opportunities, all within a supportive and encouraging environment.
This helps to identify and nurture individual abilities, increase confidence, experience and self-worth, and positively address limiting self beliefs.
South Essex Community Hub (SECH)
SECH Youth Hub provides a safe and positive community space where young people are supported with meaningful activities, work co-productively, and receive support their well-being and mental health.
SAVS Volunteer Hub
The Southend Volunteer Hub has information about a range of volunteer opportunities accross Southend.
They also have a Supported Volunteering Programme which provides volunteers with one to one support.
Kings Trust Programme
The Kings Trust Programme is delivered by Southend City Community College.
It is a free, 12-week personal development course designed to help young people aged 16 to 25 who are not currently in education, employment or training build confidence, gain new skills, and move closer to their goals.
The programme runs 3 times each year.

Essex Opportunities is a one stop shop for information and advice on jobs, careers, skills and training.
It includes the Apprenticeship Hub containing helpful information about Apprenticeships and live local Apprenticeship opportunities.
Skills for Careers Skills Bootcamps
Skills Bootcamps are for ages 19 plus. They are specific skills related short courses, available on a wide range of vocational areas.
They help you develop new skills that employers are looking for. They're a great opportunity to train in a new industry or progress in your current career.
The skills bootcamps can take place at a college, a training provider or online.
ECL Connect to Work
Connect to Work is a UK Government-funded programme which helps individuals with disabilities, long-term health conditions, or other barriers to employment.
ECL run the programme for the Southend, Essex and Thurrock area. It offers personalised, hands-on support to help people find and keep jobs.
