Young people should be in education, meaningful employment or training up until the age of 18. If a young person is not in education, employment or training, they are sometimes referred to as NEET.

NEET stands for Not in Education, Employment or Training.

In Southend, there is a range of support for young people who are classified as NEET.

Support is available through the following teams/programmes:

  • Southend Virtual School
  • The Ready to Work programme
  • The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
  • The Southend Preparing for Adulthood Team for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Southend Careers Service
