Young people across Southend are being encouraged to check if they are eligible for the MenB vaccine and get protected before the first-dose deadline of 31 December 2026.
Nationally, vaccine uptake remains lower than expected, leaving many young adults unprotected against meningitis B and septicaemia.
The vaccination programme is aimed at:
- young people born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
- people under 25 starting higher education for the first time
- people under 25 starting residential further education for the first time
- eligible international students under 25
Two doses of the MenB vaccine are needed for protection, given at least 28 days apart.
Eligible young people can book online or visit a participating pharmacy.
Or young people can attend the Southend Vaccination Event on Thursday 29 October, at the Forum Library Southend SS1 1NS where the MenB vaccine will be available for eligible young people.
Meningitis and septicaemia can become serious very quickly. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and help prevent the spread of disease.
