2026 marks 10 years of the #AskAboutAsthma campaign. NHS England are asking health services, schools and other organisations to set local goals to improve asthma care.

Key messages:

  • children and young people with asthma should be supported to manage their condition in every part of their lives, whether that's at home, at school or college, or out in the community
  • an asthma attack is a warning sign. It means prevention action is needed to keep the child or young person in your care safe and well
  • neighbourhood models give us the chance to develop high- quality, accessible care closer to home, helping to deliver the Government ambition of a “left shift” for children and young people’s asthma care

The campaign seeks to raise awareness with settings so they can encourage children and young people, their families, to

  1. get an asthma action plan in place
  2. understand how to use their inhalers correctly
  3. schedule an asthma review – every year and after every asthma attack
  4. consider air quality and its impact on lung health
