About the guide

Specific to Southend-on-Sea, this guide is for families with children or young people with suspected or diagnosed neurodevelopmental conditions.

The guide is full of information on all things neurodevelopmental (ND), to help families understand the different ND conditions, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia.

The guide also looks at how families can;

  • help support their ND child or young person
  • find the right services and support
  • understand the next steps
  • get recommendations from other local ND families
  • read first-person experiences from local ND children and adults

Co-produced with Southend CCG and Southend-on-Sea City Council, the guide was written by Southend SEND Independent Forum (SSIF), with input and contributions from a large number of local services and schools. Its aim is to increase knowledge and understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions and what support and services are available to provide reassurance, guidance, signposting, and recommendations to families in crisis.

The guide can also be utilised by professionals as a resource to support families, children and young people.

How can families access the guide?

The guide is free and is available online on the Southend SEND Independent Forum (SSIF) website. The guide is available in a variety of formats, including paper copies which have been specifically printed for families who may struggle to access online content. These will be available for families to request.
