The GP Exercise Referral Programme at Freedom Leisure Southend is a 12-week supported exercise programme designed to help people who are currently inactive, have a long-term health condition, or have been advised by a healthcare professional to become more physically active.
It is delivered in partnership with Southend-on-Sea City Council and local NHS partners.
The programme aims to help people build confidence, improve their physical health and develop sustainable exercise habits that they can continue after the programme.

Session times depend on instructor availability. Typical hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm. A later session up to 8pm may be available on a Thursday if needed.
- Cost
-
GP Referral membership: £22 per month for the first 12 weeks. This includes gym access, swimming and GP referral classes.
GP Referral Graduate: £31 per month (increases to this price after the first 12 weeks). This includes gym access, swimming and GP referral classes.
Pay-as-you-go: £5 per session for gym access, GP referral classes and swimming.

The first step is to speak to your GP, practice nurse, physiotherapist or another appropriate healthcare professional.
Freedom Leisure Southend also currently accept self-referrals using the referral form link subject to health screening.
To self-refer you must pass the questions shown on the webpage. If not, you will need a professional referral to start.
GPs who are referring must use the GP referral form and email mark.davey@freedom-leisure.co.uk with your completed form.
