Description

Ready to Work is a targeted support programme for young people aged 16 to 19 (or up to 25 with special educational needs and disabilities) who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

It supports those who may not yet be ready for formal education, training or employment. The programme prioritises building confidence, emotional safety and engagement, and provides a structured, but flexible package of support including:

  • confidence building and motivation
  • employability skills (CVs, applications and interviews)
  • Functional Skills support (English and Maths)
  • workplace behaviour and expectations
  • career exploration and goal-setting
  • 1 to 1 tailored support
  • support into employment, training or further education
  • life skills development including communication, time management, wellbeing, and preparing for adult responsibilities

The programme typically runs over 6 weeks, with the option for continued support for up to 1 year.

Young people usually attend 3 days per week (maximum 4 days).

Referral notes

This is a targeted programme. Referrals must come from either:

  • Southend Virtual School
  • Youth Justice Service
  • Southend Careers Service
  • SEND (via appropriate professionals)

This programme is funded by Southend-on-Sea City Council and delivered in partnership with Southend City Community College and a network of local providers.

Southend YMCA co-ordinate the programme.
