In Southend, the Shared Lives scheme provides support to adults and people with care act eligible needs from the age of 16 who have a learning disability.
Shared Lives is a care and support model that provides innovative, family/household-based support to adults with various support needs.
An adult who needs support and accommodation is matched to an approved shared lives carer and moves in with them. Together they share family and community life.
Shared lives can be used by people with various support needs, including learning disabilities, mental ill health, and those with a complexity of support needs. Support may be live-in or used for respite or day support.
Shared Lives schemes are responsible for the recruitment, assessment and approval of people wishing to become shared lives hosts/carers, the review and ongoing support of carers and training. The scheme is a member of Shared Lives Plus.
