The Family Play and Respite Club provides sports, games, puzzles, arts and crafts and other activities for children aged 5 to 16 years with learning disabilities. There are also places for any non-disabled siblings of those who attend.
Physical and sporting activities promote a healthy lifestyle. Creative activities like arts and crafts enable attendees to develop new skills or find new interests.
All attendees receive support and education on basic social skills. This creates a vibrant, friendly and compassionate environment for all to enjoy and helps individuals to speak up for themselves
Parents do not need to stay at the club meaning they can secure some regular respite for themselves.
Staff are fully experienced and trained in supporting children and young people with all forms of learning disabilities.
Outcomes/transferable life skills for children and young people attending:

- greater involvement and understanding of the needs of others
- increased self reliance, allowing them to become integrated and active members of the community

£20 per session but an hourly rate is provided if a child or young person does not attend all day.
This activity is supported by 2026/27 Short Breaks Main Access Grant funding from Southend-on-Sea City Council.

Sessions run every Saturday during term time.
Holiday sessions are provided during the three half term breaks and the Easter and summer breaks.
All sessions run from 9am to 3pm but children can be booked in for a shorter time if that is more suitable for them.
