What does the team do?

The councils Social Care Mental Health services used to be provided by Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT).

This agreement expired in March 2022 and has been continuing under existing terms.

In 2021 a review was commissioned by the council to:

  • establish how effective current arrangements are in Adult Mental Health
  • provide options to either strengthen or change the arrangements to ensure a better delivery of social work statutory responsibilities

In February 2023, the council invited colleagues in EPUT to work together on a plan. The idea was to return the social care element of the Mental Health service to the council.

This was successful and as a result, a new service is currently being provided by the council.

Adult Mental Health Team (AMHT)

This new service will be provided by the AMHT. They will sit under the overall Adult Social Care service.

AMHT aim to provide both:

  • a social care mental health service and
  • legal responsibility for Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs)

If you are in crisis and need their help, please dial NHS 111 and select option 2 for mental health crisis support. This will connect you to their contact centre. Here, trained staff will provide appropriate support and advice 24 hours a day.
