Book recommendations

Local parent carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have shared book recommendations with us, books that they have personally found useful for their children and young people, family members or themselves.

The Can I Tell You Aboutseries of books offer simple introductions to a range of conditions and subjects. Friendly characters invite readers to learn about their experiences of living with a particular condition and how they would like to be helped and supported. The books provide an introduction for young people, aged 7 upwards, as well as parents, friends, teachers and professionals.

Scarlett the Turtle by Stevie Ingram-Palmer. This is a picture book to celebrate diversity and inclusion in which we meet Scarlett who has a speech delay. This book is available through Southend Libraries.
