Description

Making Waves is specialised group is for children and young people with special educational needs, such as Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and disabilities.

We provide fun activities and learning opportunities through the use of specialised equipment. We address the social, emotional, physical, sensory and spiritual well-being, of the children and young people as well as their families and supporters. We hope to create a safe space for this community to grow and support each other in a mutually understanding and friendly environment.

Our vision is to provide detailed sessions for children and young people to learn through play and to meet their sensory needs. This is a great opportunity for parents and carers of the children to meet each other, to feel safe going out, to know their children are safe and to connect with others in the community who may be experiencing similar situations. Parents can share the time together to support one another.

Support, advice and strategies are given for those who would like it on areas such as Individual Support Plans, Education Health and Care Plans and Disability Living Allowance support.

Many young people are unable to access other after school clubs due to their needs. We provide a group for them to attend where they know that they are respected and are in a safe place with appropriate support, encouraging them to interact with others, as well as being able to talk freely and ask for help with such things as homework.

Leanne Baldwin, a part-time community worker, runs the sessions, she is SENCO qualified and has many years of experience working with children with SEND. Leanne has qualifications in Basic ASD, SENDCo and Level 3 child educator. Our passionate volunteers also have some of these qualifications.
